Most of us rely on car mechanics when we lose the car’s battery life. Or we directly opt to purchase a new battery assuming that battery’s lifespan is over. Aren’t we?
Have we ever thought of any enhancing methods that can save our penny? Is there any way that can help us increase the lifespan of the battery and avoid that additional expense we bear at the time of battery failure?
First of all, understand that it is not a very tough job to recondition the battery. You just need to put in some time and use a few gadgets that can reinstall the same power in the battery as the new one. Thus, it means that the old refurbished battery has the same power as the new one. Isn’t this great?
If you are really interested in knowing and learning how you can refurbish your old car batteries, then keep your attention towards the points mentioned below.
Presently, there are two types of cars that are available for the users in the market, viz., Hybrid Cars & Normal Cars. Let us understand the battery recondition method for both of them one by one.
Reconditioning the Hybrid Car’s battery
Hybrid cars are usually divided into 2 components. One is the electric motor that helps cars to run on the road. Second is the battery that keeps the parts of the vehicle running. For example, radio, headlights, etc.
The hybrid car’s battery life is 2,00,000 miles officially. It is subject to change as per the scenario. Once the battery is damaged or stop working, as said, people rush to purchase a new battery that might cost them $2500 to $3000. Isn’t it too costly?
Batteries consist of modules in hybrid cars. When the batteries stop working or battery’s lifespan is over, the manufacturers replace the affected modules. So once you go and return the old non-working battery, they will give you the same old batteries with replaced modules and sell it as a brand new battery.
The overall cost of replacing the modules is $700 as per research. Instead of replacing your old battery with the new one, why don’t you just replace the old affected module and get a brand new battery which can span up to 6-7 more years? It will reduce your cost by a great margin and you can increase the battery’s lifespan.
Additionally, this reconditioning method, though it’s time-consuming, directs you towards the steps that are officially followed by manufacturers. So, no need to step out with a concern about whether the method can harm your old battery or not.
Reconditioning the Normal Car’s battery
Looking at the cost of purchasing a new battery, it is better to follow the below-mentioned steps which can regain the power of your old battery and increase its lifespan by 2-3 years.
- First of all, remove all the rubbers attached at the top of your battery.
- Fill the empty battery with distilled water and then recharge it. Don’t close it again with the rubber tops.
- In 1-2 hours, you might see bubbles coming on the holes. If in any case, you don’t see any bubbles, reverse the negative and positive wires of the battery and wait for 2 minutes. You will see the formation of bubbles in the holes.
- Charge it again for 30 minutes.
- You can also try using acid water which is a blend of acid and distilled water.
- In the end, you may get a brand new battery with an increased lifespan that you can install again in your car and start driving!
You just need to understand that reconditioning a battery will create 70% of the power present in a brand new battery which is somewhat more than what our car needs. So no need to worry about whether our car will accept a reconditioned battery or not.
Besides getting a new battery, you will save your hard-earned money of course and you will save our earth with additional pollution. Recondition the battery and in turn, reduce 50% of the pollution caused by new batteries. Our earth will be pollution-free and you will learn tactics that are at times commercially beneficial going forward.
