  • Ok,

One of my wife’s friends from the US is getting married, so we’re planning to make our first trip across the pond. We’ll be making a big holiday out of it (3-4 weeks) and we were wondering if anyone has any suggestions for places to visit while in the California area.

We’ll be going to San Fransico and Reno (there’s the wedding) for sure, and are thinking about visiting one of the large national parks (Yosemite perhaps). Anything else?

Please note, we’re both Europeans who have had few direct interactions with American culture until now except from our TV screen.

    thanks!

First, let me say that not all Americans are as stupid as the ones portrayed on TV (Jersey Shore comes to mind…)
While in San Fran I really recommend the museum of natural history, some very fascinating stuff from what I remember (it has been a few years).
If you like wine, a trip up the highway to Napa Valley for some wine tasting might be in order.
Depending on what your interests are, there are several wonderful places to visit.

    Sounds like fun!
In San Fran, visit the Haight-Ashbury (peace/love) district and wander around. Vilnias already mentioned Napa valley, but Sonoma valley is also just across the bay from San Fran and offers wine and cheese tours too. Then there’s the Alcatraz tour, and Chinatown to see as well.

Consider seeing some giant redwood trees. There are several groves in Northern Cali and they are truly amazing to behold. There’s a very “D&D” feel to those ancient forests. Redwood National Park and Sequoia National Park are two that I’ve visited.

Yes, I recommend them as well. I have the privilege to live smack dab in the middle of them, all I have to do is look out a window and see them. There is a place near my house that is nothing but redwoods for as far as you can see and the only thoughts that come to mind every time I see them: “There and back again…”.

awesome, thnx, I really think the redwood trees will be an autoinclude!
